Anyways, moving on...
I want to talk about design changes I've made to Damien. This won't be a picture heavy post, because I can't be bothered with comparison shots right now (maybe sometime soon, I'll throw something up).
But yeah-- Damien's face.
One thing I noticed about Damien while sketching pages of the book, was how he had beady little eyes. This was a pretty silly oversight on my part. To have a character who triggers his "thing" by having his eyes turn all black, yet give him tiny eyes just seems like such a silly thing. I managed to find a size in which I'm happy, I may or may not give him actual iris's one day.
Another thing, which I unfortunately can't change (due to an incredible force of habit and not wanting to stray off from something people would recognise), is the shape of his bloody head and nose.
You guys have any idea how much work it is to draw this guy side on and not make it look stupid? he has a flat face, and a flat nose. No matter how I draw it, it's going to look stupid. I think in the whole of the book I've managed to plan about two side shots of Damien, and I still hate them.
The little cravat thing was a pain aswel. It never had a consistency to it. I also think the jacket, waist coat, striped shirt, cape, and flowey bit of fancy cloth was a bit much. I like to keep everything as simple as possible (not out of laziness, I'm trying to draw this as a cartoon), so I decided, for the better, to tuck the bloody thing in.
